Dongying is a prefecture-level city in Shandong province, covering an area of 7,923 square kilometers. Located around the mouth of the Yellow River, Dongying borders Binzhou to the west, Zibo to the southwest, and Weifang to the south. The city's 350-km coastline borders the Laizhou Bay and the Bohai Bay to the east and north respectively. A large part of the city's economy revolves around petroleum and the nearby Shengli Oil Field. Industries in Dongying include: petroleum, petro chemistry, saline chemistry, papermaking, machinery, electronics, construction, building materials, foodstuff processing, pneumatic tires and rubber, textile and light industries. In 2008, the city had 2,004,800 inhabitants, and the GDP of Dongying reached RMB 205.262 billion with per capita GDP of RMB 102,741.

东营市是适应胜利油田和黄河三角洲开发建设的需要，经国务院批准，于1983年10月成立的省辖地级市。位于山东省北部黄河入海口三角洲地区，总面积7923平方公里。2008年末全市常住人口200.48万人。至2007年底，东营市辖东营、河口2个区，广饶、利津、垦利3个县，23个镇、13个乡、7个街道办事处，1781个村民委员会。主要有石油、天然气、卤水、煤、地热、粘土、 贝壳等矿种。2008年， 全市生产总值达到2052.62亿元，人均生产总值102741元。
